Almost every province and territory runs one official server-certification program — the map below shows exactly which one is yours, what it costs, and where to log in. A couple of provinces go a step further and confirm your identity and proctor the exam, which makes the certificate especially trusted by employers.

Alberta’s mandatory certification from AGLC. Fully online and self-paced, with up to five attempts on the exam.

The LGCA’s responsible-service certification, taken online. Licensees may also propose their own approved program.
A MADD-approved responsible beverage service program, mandatory since 2021 and delivered by the provincial tourism industry association.
Industry training from Hospitality NL covering responsible service, ID checks and premises safety. Offered as best practice.
The territory’s free online certification, launched in 2022 and required for serving staff and on-site managers as a condition of licence.
Mandatory since 2024, with a choice of approved providers. SafeCheck confirms your photo ID and proctors the exam by webcam.
Nunavut has no territory-wide course. Training is still required — employers arrange it through approved third-party or community providers and keep a log.
Canada’s most recognized server program. The final test is proctored by webcam with photo-ID verification, so the certificate is unmistakably yours.
PEI’s Responsible Beverage Service Program, delivered by Holland College’s Culinary Institute. Required before working in a licensed premises.
The ITHQ and Éduc’alcool responsible-service program (Service in Action). Widely used, though not mandatory province-wide.
SLGA’s program (SIRS), delivered by Tourism Saskatchewan and required before a new hire’s first shift. Fully online.
A free program from the Yukon Liquor Corporation, officially recommended for all servers. Self-paced online (BARS-L).
